Who is the Angklung Hamburg Orchestra ?

The AHO ensemble consists of about 25 members, ranging from primarily Indonesian high school children to university students and professionals based in Hamburg. AHO is not merely a group of people who meet to play music and perform together; it also embodies a platform for its members to be creative and express their ideas to achieve its primary objective: to introduce the beautiful harmony of Indonesian culture to the world.

What is a an Angklung?

Angklung is an instrument made of varying sizes of bamboo tubes attached to bamboo frames. The tubes are carved to have a resonant pitch and are tuned to octaves when struck. Each angklung typically reverberates only one pitch. In an angklung ensemble, each performer is responsible for one or more pitches and plays at the right beats to produce complete melodies. Playing angklung requires coordination and cooperation, which represents the values of teamwork, mutual respect and social harmony.

What is your mission?

Our mission is bold and unyielding - to introduce the world to the beauty of the Indonesian traditional music instrument, Angklung. We strive to captivate German residents with its unique blend of bamboo sounds, classical elements and powerful sound effects. But our purpose goes beyond just entertaining; it's about sending a message of unity and inclusiveness. Angklung is a symbol of harmony, where every piece - every person - is just as important as the next.
